Happy Whale the data base for whales, where sally uploads her photos of the flukes for identificaction. It's not just about seeing these incredible creatures in their enviroment, and watching the way they behave and interact, its also about research and trying to understand the bahaviour, and who they travel with. Happy Whale then notifies Sally when they have been re sighted, which on our vessel Sally has managed to capture the fluke of a few whales that have been sighted after a long absense. this is the catalogue of flukes for 2023 put together by Sally Hinton
Today they matched one of my photos from my 18th September trip with you guys with a whale first and last seen in 1998! Cool eh!
I just had a notification from Happy Whale that a whale we saw on 25th September 2022 off Tweed Heads was first identified in Hervey Bay in July 1997 (25yrs ago) and again in Hervey Bay in September 2002 (20 yrs ago). ID = PWF-SP_1759It had a chunk out of its fluke - but still going strong! Cool eh! I love this stuff!
